I took the title from my friend Annies blog so thanks Annie. As I am trying to prepare for our little one to arrive please comment on the things you couldn't live without. Also any advice would be appreciated too :)
I copied my comment from Annie's but I've added a couple more things.
Here are the things I couldn't live without:
-Boppy pillow: I couldn't live without this thing.
-breastpump (I use Medela): you'll use this when you get engorged, and if you need to increase your milk supply later on. Not just for moms going back to work.
-Mylicon Gas Drops
-Nightgowns that open for late night changings
-Loved Pampers swaddlers diapers for newborn. Huggies when they grow.
-Good pair of fingernail clippers (ours are Safety First)
-Nice big swaddling blankets: its easier to swaddle them and not have their little arms come out. Target has some good ones.
-Humidifier - this can double as a sound machine. Logan woke up a lot the first night he was home because it was so quiet. They like noises. Humidifier is great if they get little colds. We run it practically every night and Logan rarely gets sick.
-LOVED Chicco travel system
-Changing table: much easier to change baby in the same place every time and it saves your back.
-Diaper Genie: They stack up fast and you don't have to take out the garbage every day.
-Lansinoh breast pads: leakage is sooo much fun. Haha.
-a record book (I'll get back with you on the name of mine, its in sleeping baby's room right now): I still track how much and when Logan eats. It helps me stay organized and it also has little journal entries to write down special moments.
-a good nursing bra and sleep bra. I got both of mine at Motherhood Maternity.
Wow, I think Amanda about covered it. I would add though. . .I couldn't live with out naps and showers. . .for mom of course!! Take time for yourself!!
Nuk pacifiers! I can't stand seeing into baby's mouths while they suck on those ugly hospital ones. It is the first thing I start when baby comes home.
Pampers diapers (I love the elastic in the premium ones! However, my cousin's daughter did a science experiment and found Huggies are more absorbent. For me though, I found pampers contained it all better.
Huggies wipes -I love the aloe and green tea scent!
Bottles with plastic liners -love Playtex. Push the air up and out. They keep the air bubbles out so much better -which means less gas for baby.
Super absorbent cloth diapers as burp cloths. I sew a strip of ribbon on mine to make them cuter.
Really good nursing pads -Johnson and Johnson used to make great ones! Ask around what's good now!
Diaper genie -definitely!
Homemade hooded towels- big thick ones like adults use. Ask me if you want a sewing tutorial -1 towel +1 washcloth. Easy, and so much nicer than the thin ones they sell for newborns.
A good baby monitor -check reviews
Also, a well ranked bouncer seat. I used this one thing more than anything else! They're nice because they are easy to move baby from one room to another.
A play mat to encourage that well needed tummy time.
Baby Advil and Baby Tylenol -definitely! I keep the dosing charts posted inside my medicine cabinet.
Large swaddling blankets to bundle baby nice and tight.
Baby teething gel.
Medela pump -I like having one I can bring in the car on road trips.
"What to Expect the First Year"
A good and comfy rocker/recliner with all my necessary nursing items stored close by - Lansinoh Breast Cream, nursing pads, burp cloth, baby hygiene kit with clippers, etc.
There are so many more- but those should give you a start. Plus, you will figure it out as you go!
Well it looks like everything's been mostly covered. But here are a few things to add:
- I know someone before mentioned bottles, but my favorite ones are Dr. Brown Bottles. They have plastic tubes inside them for air bubbles to go. They worked well for us.
- Balmex: great for diaper rash
- Lasinoh Lanolin Cream- for you of course..I got really sore.
-Loved Pampers diapers, but they get pricey
- Syringes: these work a lot better than droppers if you have to give medicine
So much more, but so much has been mentioned. Good Luck!
Sorry to post again. My journal is called The Essential Baby Organizer: birth to one year. Its by Dani Rasmussen and Antoinette Perez. I bought it through Amazon. :)
Love our Chicco Travel System and Chicco High Chair.
Love playtex bottles with liners.
Love pampers swaddlers for new born and then Costco diapers after that are great. Do you have a Costco? :)
Love our easy to get into diaper bag. First had one with a big flap and had a hard time getting into it while it was on my shoulder... baby in other arm. Now we have one that zipps on top.. so easy.
Love the fish aquarium that goes on crib. Evan is 22 mo. and will wake up in the night.. turn it on and go back to sleep. WOnderful! :)
Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5" Screen. This is our monitor and I don't know how people do it without. Evan makes so much noise and it keeps me from running in his room 20 million times just to see that he is still sleeping. I just push the bottom and then I can see him. Best EVER!
These are the ones that stand out the most right now to me. I'm sure I will think of a million more. Wish you would move back to AZ. :)
I'd add a swing. My kids practically lived in it. We got the small fold-able one that Fisher-price makes. It was a bit more of a pain to put baby into as you have to bend down to ground level, However, it took up hardly any space, I could move it to whatever room I was in, and took it with us when we traveled often.
Really you don't need much especially to get you started.
We have been married since Dec 2005 and had our little girl in April 2010 and our little boy in January of 2012. We love every second with them and truly see the goodness of God in all they do. They teach us more about eternal principles than we will ever teach them.
